The name for Huiji District in Zhengzhou originated from a bridge, specifically the Huiji Bridge, a three-arch stone structure first built during the Sui and Tang dynasties, which can be found in Huijiqiao Village, Huiji District. A contemporary of the renowned Zhaozhou Bridge, it is a precious relic of the Tongji Canal section of the Sui-Tang Dynasties Grand Canal and the oldest stone arch bridge in Zhengzhou.
郑州惠济之名，源于一座桥。在惠济区惠济桥村，静卧着一座始建于隋唐的三孔石拱桥——惠济桥。它与赵州桥同一时代，是隋唐大运河通济渠上的珍贵遗存，也是郑州最古老的石拱桥。
Legend has it that in ancient times, a child named Huizi and his mother were helped by local villagers when they were fleeing famine. After becoming a top scholar and a high-ranking official, Huizi built a stone bridge here to repay villagers' kindness, and in the local dialect, "Huiji" sounds similar to "Huizi." Thus, the bridge's name carries a dual meaning: helping passersby in need and commemorating its builder, Huizi. This millennium-old name speaks volumes—"Hui" signifies grace and benevolence, and "Ji" means helping others in need.
民间传说，古时一位叫“灰子”的孩子，幼时随母逃荒至此地得村民接济，后中状元、居高官，为感恩乡邻在此捐建石桥。当地方言中，“惠济”与“灰子”音近，桥名既取“惠济行人”之意，亦含纪念建桥者“灰子”之妙。千年桥名，字字千钧——“惠”是恩泽，“济”是渡人。

On February 4th, 2026, two industrial land plots in the Huayuankou zone both broke ground: the Renmin Xingyun Satellite Big Data Industrial Base and the Xinjiyuan Automobile Operation Comprehensive Service Center.
2026年2月4日，花园口片区两宗产业用地顺利摘牌——人民星云卫星大数据产业基地、新纪元汽车运营综合服务中心同日落地。
The Renmin Xingyun base, with a total investment of 1.02 billion yuan, will focus on aerospace information and big data services. It plans to attract at least three academician workstations, 50 industrial chain enterprises, and 150 high-end researchers within five years. Huiji, once renowned nationwide for flash-frozen food, is now setting its sights on the sky.
总投资10.2亿元的人民星云基地，将以空天信息大数据服务为主导，计划5年内引进不少于3个院士工作站、50家产业链企业、150名高端科研人员。曾经以“速冻食品”闻名全国的惠济，正把目光投向苍穹。

In recent years, Huiji District has strategically divided its territory into three major zones—the Grand Canal, Guxing, and Huayuankou—each with distinct yet complementary roles. The Grand Canal zone leverages its ecology to empower its industry, while industry in turn highlights local characteristics. Its western part integrates a park and a port, attracting numerous quality projects like the Dahe Huiji International Food Trade Port.

In 2025, the district's modern food industry achieved a total output value of 5.24 billion yuan. Industry giants Sanquan and Synear collectively command over 60% of the national flash-frozen food market, and three large specialized wholesale markets boast an annual transaction volume of approximately 250 billion yuan.

The eastern part of the Grand Canal zone leverages its rich ecological and cultural resources to create immersive cultural tourism experiences and new shopping centers. The Huayuankou zone focuses on emerging industries like next-generation information technology and new energy. By the end of 2025, the Xinjiyuan Automobile Operation Comprehensive Service Center was awarded a parcel of land for construction. Upon completion, it will become the largest new energy vehicle aftermarket service base in northern Zhengzhou.
