The character "中," pronounced "zhong" and meaning "to be in the middle," originated from Zhengzhou, giving the city a relationship with this character since ancient times. The original residents of Zhengzhou used the concept of "the Center of Heaven and Earth", and the historical building complex named the "Center of Heaven and Earth" in Dengfeng has been recognized by the world.

“中”，发轫于郑州。自古以来，郑州便与这个字结下不解之缘——郑州先民确立了“天地之中”的概念，郑州登封“天地之中”概念更是得到世界确认。

Nowadays, people in Henan are accustomed to using "中" to express confirmation and praise. That has also become one of the most distinctive cultural symbols of Zhengzhou.
